Our Not-for-Profit Status is Now Confirmed
8 September 2026
Macarthur Heights Community Group has officially become a registered not-for-profit incorporated association under the Associations Incorporation Act 2009 (NSW). Our updated constitution and not-for-profit objects were registered with NSW Fair Trading today (Reference: 26‑21871), following the special resolution passed by members at our Annual General Meeting on 30 August 2026. This is a significant milestone for our community group.
What this means for MHCG 1. All funds go to community purposes: As a not-for-profit, every dollar we receive from residents goes directly back into community projects, events, park improvements, and shared amenities in Macarthur Heights. 2. No profits to members: The association's income or property cannot be distributed, paid, or transferred to members — even on winding up. Any surplus is reinvested into our community. 3. Governed by a registered constitution: Our newly registered constitution sets out our not-for‑profit purposes and ensures transparent, accountable governance. 4. We operate within NSW law: We are now a formally recognised not‑for‑profit incorporated association under the Act. What this does not mean (important for clarity) Donations are NOT tax-deductible Our current not‑for‑profit registration does not automatically make contributions tax‑deductible. Tax deductibility requires a separate endorsement as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) by the Australian Taxation Office. For now, all contributions remain voluntary, optional, and are not tax‑deductible. We will keep members informed if our status changes in the future. Updated documents are available The registered constitution, our Not-for‑Profit Status Summary, and the NSW Fair Trading confirmation letter are now available on our About & Governance page . As always, we uphold our core value of Transparency by making our founding documents and financial records accessible to all neighbours. A big thank you This milestone reflects years of thoughtful work by committee members and volunteers. Thank you to everyone who participated in the AGM vote, and to those who have helped build MHCG into a group that is now formally recognised as a community-focused, not-for-profit association. As always, participation matters most. Whether you contribute financially or just join a local event, we’re glad you're part of our neighbourhood. Looking for more info?
